A tall, stately tree with an attractive conical shape and branches nearly to the ground in open stands. Makes an excellent windbreak throughout the midwest. Adapts to a variety of sites, but prefers moderately moist sandy loam soils. Very intolerant of wet soil. Height at maturity is 80-100 ft.
